BBC has been in school for one week now and I have been busy around here. I don't have a whole lot to show for my efforts just yet but wanted to be sure and join Kimba and her DIY project fun. I love it that she is lenient in the rules so I don't have to feel stifled in what I present each week. Remember back during the garden party I mentioned I wanted to do a little project with my mailbox?
So, whadya think? Hee hee. As you probably guessed, this isn't my REAL mail box but it REALLY is a mailbox. My BFF and I stumbled upon it in rural Oklahoma. We took a wrong turn in route to her cousins home and thought this was a hoot when we passed by. After we realized we were lost we got a huge kick passing back by because it even had a flag on it. Ingenious! Although I would think the mail would get a little soggy on rainy days. I bet the folks that crafted this are country pigs.
Seriously - this is my REAL mailbox. See how it is getting oxidized on the top? I was thinking about painting or cleaning it up and sealing or something to keep it from doing that. I love the color/finish that it is and could have sworn that it was warranted against doing that. Or should I just leave it alone and let it do its thing? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Happy DIY Day!

haha! I was fooled. lol
It's a pretty picture of your mailbox - with the flowers and vine and old/loved look. I like it just the way it is but I'm interested in seeing what you do with it too. :)
(I'm no help, am I?)
Have a fabulous weekend. It's almost Friday!

Haha!! That's funny. :) I live in OK and I'm sad to say I'm not surprised to hear that's where you found it.
Love the greenery around your mailbox - very pretty! Good luck deciding what to do. :)
I'm afraid I'm no help either! I like how it looks right now, but it would look good painted as well.
I got a chuckle out of the OK mailbox! Someone has a great sense of humor...or else they are just resourceful.

i love the first mailbox!!
i also like your mailbox the way it is, it looks distressed but pretty!
I had to wander over here after I saw your comment on ASPTL. Very funny!
Teehee...I was like, "ummmm, okay???" for a minute. Your real mail box is lovely. The climbers are so pretty. :) Thanks for the visit!
Just wanted to say thanks for stopping by the other day. I'm off to check out your blog now. Too funny with the mailbox photo.
Hmmm, I don't think it looks half bad, but if you're set on sprucing it up, I guess you could five it a coat of matte black spray paint, but I don't know what you could seal it with that wouldn't be shiny? As another spray paint option- I recently used rustoleum's 'anondized bronze' and it's not as dark as the color of your mailbox, but the finish has a similar quality. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!
That mail pail is a hoot ! Great that you got a shot of it !
My thoughts on your mail box (I adore the flowers growing on it - so jealous !) Anyway, since you are not happy with it ...I think I would paint it with the outdoor spray paint - go black again and then spray it with a good outdoor protective gloss or flat...paint some great numbers or use stickers....post when done and let us know :o)
