I've been bored with my door decor as of late and having trouble getting inspired. I went out shopping several times and came home empty handed. The other day I was at a local nursery and this wreath caught my eye...
The basket is made out of sturdy sticks and it is all contained in a burlap bag. Cute, eh? If you look closely you'll see the price is $68.00!!! What??? I KNEW I could make something for less and was on a mission. I went to the lake and picked up all kinds of curvy sticks.
Then I went to Hobby Lobby to get an oval grapevine wreath.
And while there I noticed this basket. Hmmm...
What if I combine the wreath ($2.50) and this basket ($7.50) - would it work?
I wired the basket to the wreath. I like the way the handle of the basket blends in with the wreath. Once I secured the basket to the wreath, I lined with spaghnum moss (on hand) and filled with a potting soil mix (on hand). I have a fern fetish as of late so my centerpiece is an autumn fern ($4.00). I added white impatiens from a six pack ($1.25) and found a small pot of ivy ($2.00) that had several long growths that had already started to root. I finished it off with one of my toad stools and hung from the door with burlap ribbon. To make the ribbon I cut a 3 inch or so strip of burlap and frayed the edges. Tip: To cut straight lines in burlap, pull out the thread where you want to cut. Then cut where the thread was - easy!
So for less than $20 I was able to create a comparable look! Not bad! I think it is adorable and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! I hope it lasts through the summer.
